Work Addiction

If there is a form of addiction that I would want, it would probably be addiction to work.

Granted, any form of “addiction” is bad for you. However, suppose that we can choose what it is that we cannot help but doing even past beyond the point of rationality and health, my answer would probably be work.

Of all the “vices” to have, it’s probably the most beneficial one. It may not bode well for the long-term health of the people in question, but being addicted to work means that work is not some dreary part of life you want to actively avoid, but the part you are actively looking forward to.

That said, that’s not probably the proper thing to say nowadays. In recent time, there has been a greater call toward better work and life balance (although this trend has probably existed since forever). There is a greater emphasis in wanting life to not just be about work. I even saw a post at one point that claim how if you are spending majority of the time working, then you are a slave.

For some work-life balance advocates, people with work addiction may seem like they are miserable or perhaps even detrimental to the cause that they're championing, but for these work addicts, their meaning of existence is to work. Maybe it’s because they like that they're contributing something to society or maybe they just got a kick out of confronting a task and then solving it.

No matter the reason, I find that having work as the meaning of life itself is valid. I suppose it is just one of the many ways all of us comes to conflict with one another simply by virtue of living according to what we believe is right.

Nevertheless, I cannot choose how my body reacts to a stimulus, so once again, faced with the limitation of what I can and cannot do, I can only move forward, hoping for the best.

Apakah Gelar Sarjana Sastra Inggris Dibutuhkan Untuk Menjadi Penerjemah?
